Josh Duggar Scandal
Josh Duggar Scandal
"This makes me so happy!" "Nothing better than seeing a Christian go down." "I love this". "I can't tell you how happy this makes me. I hope all those %*# Duggars are exposed for the slime they are, even the #$% kids." These are actual comments I saw on facebook as fb friend's feeds blew up with the Josh Duggar and Ashley Madison story. What makes these comments worse is they were made by some claiming to be Christians or they were made on a "Christian's" Josh Duggar post and that "Christian" agreed with them. There are three lessons, we as a civilized society, need to learn from these types of behavior (both J. Duggar and the facebook commenters).
1. The Law of the Harvest is a reality. Judges 2: 1-4 reads, "Now the angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up from Egypt and brought you into the land that I swore to give to your fathers. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you, 2 and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done? 3 So now I say, I will not drive them out before you, but they shall become thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.” 4 As soon as the angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the people of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept." Galatians 6:7 "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man soeth, that shall he also reap." Hosea 8:7 ""They have planted the wind and will harvest the whirlwind. The stalks of grain wither and produce nothing to eat. And even if there is any grain, foreigners will eat it." Basically, according to the Law of the Harvest, you reap what you sow, you reap more than you so, and you reap later than you sow. This is evident in Josh Duggars life. But for those who find it so funny, that his life has become such shambles, beware! the day will come when someone is rejoicing in your demise as well.
2. Duggar's problem is not just a personal problem. This is society's problem as well. Pornography and adultery affects not only the spouse, but the children. It destroys homes. It is a disease that poisons society as well. Josh Duggar has been found out and he should be held accountable. He has no business working for ministries or companies promoting family values and Christian ethics. However, society (especially Christians) should be broken hearted over these stories. We should be making sure that our lives are above reproach so that we do not heap more sorrow on society. We should be reaching out (even if only in prayer) to these hurting families as a source of healing.
3. Those rejoicing in another's demise because of a destructive, sinful lifestyle are really just trying to mask their own perversions. You should probably get counseling. There are some deep seeded issues and self loathing that you are projecting onto others. If you claim to be a Christian and are rejoicing in another's heartbreak or supporting those who do, you might need to consult the Great Counselor. There is definitely a heart problem that only Christ can heal.
